Tai Chi Chuan is also a martial art with each move in a form having postures and applications in which you can use to defend yourself or attack. The practice of Tai Chi Chuan has become more popular worldwide with people practicing Tai Chi Chuan to improve their health and wellbeing. Some of the benefits include:
- Improves balance and co-ordination
- Improves posture
- Aids relaxation and alleviates stress
- Helps to improve circulation
- Helps to improve breathing
There are different styles of Tai Chi Chuan, but whichever style you practice you set out to achieve the healthy balance of Yin and Yang (the opposite forces of the universe). So when you are moving slowly you try to achieve this combining the movement of the body (Yang) with the stillness of the mind (Yin).
Tai Chi Chuan works on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine moving Chi or Qi energy around the body. By focusing the mind, body and breathing together it can help the flow of chi energy move around the body through pathways called meridians.
Tai Chi Chuan is suitable and accessible for all ages and can be adapted to suit individual needs. People with mobility issues can have the moves adapted and even practice exercises seated.
